Like any other mechanical machines, motorcycle are made up various parts that are joined together to performs different functions. It is the duty of the rider to understand different parts of the motorcycle to be in a position to detect a malfunctioning of any part of the bike will affect the performance of other parts.

A good understanding of the components making up the bike can also enable the rider to customize the bike to his own desire. The main part of the motorbike that the rider require to understand is the frame of the cycle as it is the part that the rider would like to take control of will determine the kind of bike the rider would like to ride. Attached to the frame are the motorcycles engine, the drive system, and the electrical system. The frame will always have unique constructions that will enable all these components to fit well to perform their function.

The engine is the power source of the motorcycles. They are of various sizes. They are ranked in cubic centimeters (cc) showing the amount of air and fuel the engine will have to displace to make one complete revolution. Bikes with Higher cubic centimeters are more powerful than those with lower cc.

There is two main type of the engine system, these are; two-stroke engines and the four stroke engine. The two-stroke engines do not require the use of valves while the four-stroke engines depend entirely on the usage of valves. The transmission in the motorcycle depends entirely on the usage of the gears which will enable the rider to change the speed of the motorcycle while riding. The Larger motorcycle uses manual transmission where the rider changes the gear by pressing a lever while the smaller scooter, motorcycles have an automatic transmission.

To slow down or stop the motorcycles use disk brakes. The brake system will apply pressure on the wheels of the motorcycle which will either slow the bike of stops the wheel from rotating. The braking system also in different type with the combined brakes while stops both will being the latest. The drive system of the motorcycle will ensure that the bike is propelled by causing the wheel of the cycle to turn. They are of three types; belt shaft drive or chain. Starting of the bike is enable by the motorcycle electrical system which also powers components like the headlights. Power used in motorcycles is stored in battery.

Other important parts are chassis which makes up the motorcycle wheels and other important accessories that include the suspension system which reduces shock and the handlebars used in control during riding
